So what does raison bread, honey mustard, ham, sharp cheddar cheese and apples have in common? They all have their part in the making of one of the tastiest sandwiches EVER. Sounds like a weird combo we know, but give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s what you need:

4 slices of raison bread

Mustard (Dijon works really good)

Honey

Sliced ham(we usually use honey ham)

A block of nice sharp(old) cheddar cheese

A large apple(McIntosh works, and one apple should be enough to make 4 sandwiches)

softened butter

some kind of grill

Butter up one side of the bread (the outside…side)

Thinly slice up the apple. Geesh, I really did a terrible job here. I hang my head in shame.

Spread on the honey/mustard combo you made up(it’s kind of a personal preference thing but it should be about half of each)

Then put on the ham…

Then the apples…

Then, you guessed it, the cheese! Make sure you put things together in the right order for maximum flavor.

Throw on the top slice and grill that thing

Oh it’s good, trust us, it’s good.

I have this thing where I absolutely positively will NOT eat a Mandarin(Christmas) Orange until December 1st. Why? I actually can’t remember right off the top of my head… but I just don’t do it, so there must be a good reason. Eggnog however, does not fall onto my imaginary pre-december no no list, so hey, let’s make some waffles! Go grab some eggnog and try this waffle recipe on a cold snowy morning.

So here’s what you need:

one and a half cups flour

1 egg

2/3 cup milk

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

one and a half tbsp sugar

eggnog

1/4 cup melted butter

3/4 tsp nutmeg

one and a half tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp vinegar

1/2 tsp vanilla

So first off get your tea going, along with the waffle iron so that everything is ready to go when the batter is all done. I always get ahead of myself and make the batter first, then stand around waiting for everything else to catch up!

Next you want to measure the milk and then add the vinegar, this just turns milk into butter milk. Once they are mixed, add enough Eggnog to bring it up to a cup and a half.

So add all the wet ingredients to a bowl and mix it all up

Then mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. I added a little of the cane sugar just because. Once they are all added together, mix it all up so there won’t be any surprise pockets of cinnamon or…baking power. Only baking powder that is MAGIC will do, by the way.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and stir together, but don’t over stir! Just enough to get things nicely mixed.

Here’s Casey staring longingly at the syrup. We recommend real maple syrup, but alas we were fresh out.

Okay so now just pour it into the waffle maker and cook it up! MMM waffles

Try it out sometime and let us know what you think!

Enjoy
